Mobile payment at European e-mobility charging stations

Wirelane, in collaboration with Wirecard, will roll out a streamlined mobile payment solution in nearly 6000 charging stations across Europe.

Wirelane provides software and hardware for charging electric vehicles, managing and administrating charging stations. The company has developed a new high-tech charging station for both the private and public sector. These offer a faster and simpler charging process than conventional charging pillars.

The Wirelane App enables the access to 60 000 charging points in 5 countries across Europe. Nearly 10% of which are already equipped with Wirecard software for all downstream settlement processes.

A module, developed by Wirecard, will facilitate contactless payments without any lengthy registration process. End customers can “tap” on the station with NFC-enabled credit cards or e-wallets, such as Google Pay or Apple Pay, to initiate the charging process. Clients can also choose to pay with a voucher or a RFID token.
