Carrefour Pay, a mobile app allowing NFC-enabled in-store payment, has been launched by the French retail group. By the end of 2018, the solution will be linked to all bank cards and will be accepted in 3000 stores in France and all Carrefour stores equipped with mobile payment terminals.
Designed as a proprietary app, Carrefour Pay is currently solely available to Android users with PASS Mastercard or C-Zam cards. Users need to download the Carrefour&Moi app from Google Play Store before accessing the “Pay with my mobile” section. Card information can then be added by presenting the card to the smartphone’s camera. After a quick validation through SMS-code, the bank card is linked to Carrefour Pay.
At check-out, the unlocked phone is placed over the payment terminal to pay. Loyalty benefits and discount coupons are automatically taken into account.
The launch of Carrefour Pay is part of the company’s plan to develop its digital and omnichannel operations, supported by a 2.8 billion euros investment.
